VHS85 sticks to the found-footage format with a batch of new horror shorts set against the gritty backdrop of the mid-1980s. This entry uses old camcorder visuals and fake news broadcasts to frame its stories, which range from government experiments gone wrong to supernatural chaos, body horror, and violent cult activity. Each segment taps into different flavors of 80s paranoia-scientific overreach, media fearmongering, and urban legends-while cranking up the gore and tension. Theres less comedy here than in some earlier entries, with a heavier lean into dread and shock. The wraparound thread slowly reveals a larger, creeping horror that ties it all together in a bleak and unsettling way.
