Poster for The Open House

The Open House (2018)

A teenager and his mother move into a relatives vacant mountain home after a personal tragedy, hoping for a fresh start while the house is on the market. Isolated in a cold, unfamiliar town, they start noticing strange things happening around the property. Items get moved, doors are left open, and eerie noises echo through the halls. At first, they chalk it up to nerves and stress, but things keep getting worse - subtle at first, then threatening. The locals are no help, either acting oddly or giving vague, unsettling warnings. As paranoia builds, tension between the mother and son rises, and they begin to suspect someone might be hiding inside the house. With no clear answers and nowhere to turn, theyre forced to question their own perceptions while trying to hold things together. The film sticks to a slow burn, letting unease creep in before pulling the rug out. By the time it shifts into full gear, the feeling of helplessness has already set in, and the ending offers no comfort - only dread and a disturbing sense that nothing was ever really safe.
