Death Note (2017)

Death Note follows a high school student named Light Turner who stumbles across a mysterious notebook that gives him the power to kill anyone just by writing their name in itif he knows their face. The notebook comes with a set of strict rules and a creepy death god named Ryuk who watches Lights choices with amusement. Light starts using the book to kill criminals, believing he can create a better world. He takes on the name "Kira" and quickly gains attention from both the public and a brilliant, eccentric detective known only as L. As Light tries to outsmart L and protect his identity, the situation spirals into a tense game of cat and mouse. At the same time, his relationship with a girl named Mia complicates things further, especially when her loyalty to the mission starts crossing moral lines. The story moves fast and focuses on the battle of wits between Light and L, while also showing how absolute power starts to corrupt Lights judgment. The tone is darker and more dramatic, but with a more Americanized style and pacing that shifts away from the original source materials slower build and deeper psychological layers.
