Monster Island (2025)
Set during World War II, the film begins aboard a Japanese transport ship carrying prisoners of war POWs and a Japanese soldier-Saito, who has been branded a traitor and is chained to a British POW named Bronson. The ship is torpedoed by Allied submarines, chaos ensues, and Saito and Bronson find themselves washed ashore on a remote, apparently deserted island. At first they view each other with deep suspicion-their nations are enemies and they cannot communicate easily-but survival soon forces them into an uneasy alliance. As they search for a way off the island, they realise they are not alone something ancient and lethal lurks in the jungle and surrounding waters, a mythological creature known as the Orang Ikan literally fish-man in MalayIndonesian folklore. The beast attacks relentlessly, picking off survivors and forcing Saito and Bronson to put aside their hostilities and work together if they hope to survive. The island becomes both battleground and prison as they must navigate treacherous terrain, dwindling supplies, the monsters territory, and their own mistrust. Ultimately, the story becomes about more than just escaping the island-its about two men from opposite sides of a war recognising their shared humanity under a dire threat, and facing down a terror far beyond the human conflict that brought them there.
