Hatchet (2006)

A group of friends partying during Mardi Gras decide to take a haunted swamp tour to shake things up, only to end up stranded in the middle of nowhere when their boat crashes. As they try to make their way through the dense, muddy wilderness, they stumble onto a creepy local legend that turns out to be terrifyingly real. One by one, the group is hunted by a brutal figure believed to be long dead, leaving them to fight for survival with no real way out. What starts off as a fun distraction quickly becomes a bloody mess, with plenty of over-the-top kills, gore, and panic as the survivors try to escape the swamp and the nightmare stalking them. It's all set against a grimy, wet backdrop that makes every scream echo harder. The film keeps its tone simple and mean, leaning hard into old-school slasher vibes with a monster that doesn't stop and a body count that keeps climbing.
